Are
the colours off on your inkjet photos?
If you find that print colours are slightly off from
what you see on your screen, you may need to make adjustments in your printer settings. Every printer has its own print profiles
included with the printer drivers, based on the manufacturers brand of ink, paper, and printer model. If you use generic/compatible
ink, or a different brand of photo paper, this will throw off the printers colour settings. You’ll have to adjust these
to get the proper printouts.
You can make your own print profiles, based on the type of ink, paper and model of
your printer yourself. Find the Color Adjustment or colour management tab in your print properties file, you may need to choose
advanced to find the colour adjustment sliders, check your printer manual for help.
Use the colour sliders to set whatever
colour correction is needed. A good way to judge this is within Photoshop where by adjusting Color Balance on a test basis
you can try and make the screen match the print. Then, use these values in setting the printer sliders.
If you don’t have Photoshop, adjust through your printer settings, do some
test prints. Some examples on what your colour adjustment sliders may look like are shown below. Once you've arrived at settings
that produce prints matching your screen, just use Save Settings to create a "setting profile"; for example Corrected Photo
Paper, or Corrected Glossy Film. Then, the next time you print with that paper simply use that setting.
